Mold in New Construction
New homes are often mold infested before the new buyer even moves in
Some reasons for this problem are:
1. Moldy building materials are received from the builders supplier- todays timbers are not kiln-dried as in earlier times. Wood still has internal moisture that makes mold growth possible.
2. The builder and its employees fail to do quality control to inspect for, and thus, prevent moldy building materials from being used in the homes construction
3. The builder stores the inventory of materials on the outside ground without plastic sheeting to protect it from rain. This allows the materials to soak up water and allow mold growth once placed in the home.
4. The construction crew fails to cover the entire home under construction with plastic sheeting at the end of each construction day to protect the home from the weather. By making this mistake, the necessary amount of water could be soaked up to enable mold growth.
5. The builder fails to inspect and test the home for mold growth while it is being constructed and at the homes completion.
